Welcome to the RSMR Harrogate Investment Conference 2024

On behalf of the RSMR team I would very much like to welcome you to our annual Harrogate Investment Conference.

Another year has flown by, but the same themes have tended to dominate our thinking throughout 2024 so far. When we discussed the global economy a year ago, we were worried about inflation and interest rates as well as continuing geopolitical tensions. Twelve months on, the picture is much the same, but with strong returns coming from risk assets - investors have been rewarded for keeping the faith and staying invested. Recessionary fears have not been completely removed but the shift by central banks to start cutting interest rates has been a welcome relief for many investors and has helped returns for bond investors.

Our theme this year is for us to try and broaden our investment horizons by focusing on areas other than those that have dominated sentiment in the last few years. Inflation is still an important topic, but the recent short term has focused on regional issues such as the budget in the UK and the US election. When looking longer term, these events can be seen as bumps in the road, but they influence how confident the consumer feels, which drives the global economy.

For RSMR, we have had a significant change in our ownership structure with Fintel plc taking a majority stake in the business. We are very pleased we have found a like-minded partner with a supportive culture who wants to build on the success we have had over the last twenty years. That period has certainly been eventful with landmark events including the global financial crisis, BREXIT and Covid-19 to name but a few. Like many of you, we have come through all of this, regrouped and pushed forward once more and we intend to continue to support our clients and the investment community through whatever is thrown at us in the next twenty years.

This year, we will once again provide you with the opportunity to hear from 21 of the leading investment management groups who will, through presentations, panels and Q&A sessions, bring challenge and insight when it comes to the issues facing us as investors today. This evening, we are hosting a dinner to celebrate 20 years of independent research, and we will hear from Award-Winning Futurist Shivvy Jervis, on using the science of motivation to elevate how we do business, and the surprising connection between the laws of attraction and professional work.

We have been supporting and helping advisers in the provision of advice to their clients through reliable investment research and analysis since 2004 and we know that advisers derive a great amount of value from the discussions, debates and networking opportunities provided by this event. Thank you for joining us today and for your support over recent years, we look forward to working with you for many more to come.

Ken Rayner, CEO

Very best wishes,

We are supporting Rewilding Britain

Rewilding is about hope. We've reached the point where the breakdown of our climate and the biodiversity crisis are urgent threats to both nature and human society. Rewilding - the large-scale restoration of ecosystems to the point where nature can take care of itself - represents a powerful solution.
