Redgrave transformed rowing from a niche sport into an Olympic legend - five golds, one bronze, three world titles, and unyielding courage through health setbacks. He overcame two potentially life changing illness yet maintained his optimal performance in the boat and is a true hero of British sport.

Five straight Olympic golds (1984–2000) from Los Angeles to Sydney, Redgrave claimed gold at every single Games, a record unmatched in endurance sports. Beyond the Olympics, he’s won 9 World Championship golds and 3 Commonwealth Games golds (1986) across various boat classes and has dominated the prestigious Henley Royal Regatta multiple times.

Steve battled through colitis in '92 and was later diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in '97 but still clinched his fifth Olympic gold aged 38 in Sydney 2000. He’s known for pushing himself to the limit - even collapsing during training - his mental and physical resilience defined his reign and he’s as tough as they come!

Steve was knighted in 2001, won the BBC Sports Lifetime Achievement award in 2011, and is ranked among the BBC’s ‘100 Greatest Britons’. Since retiring, he’s stayed active in rowing - coaching, commentating, ambassadorial roles, even collaborating with US and Chinese rowing federations.

In 2001 Sir Steve set-up his charity – The Steve Redgrave Trust, aimed at raising £5 million over five years for children’s charities. In April 2006 at the London Marathon, he broke the record for the most money raised by an individual, a staggering £1.8million and in doing so broke the £5 million target he set himself. In February 2008 the charity was renamed the Steve Redgrave Fund, joining Sport Relief and became part of the Comic Relief family.
